Årsager til tandagenesi

ABSTRACT

Oversigtsartikel Dato: 19.11.2009

The cause of agenesis: A complete understanding of the cause of agenesis is still lacking. Scientific articles are continuously published internationally focusing on new genes important for the understanding of agenesis. Special genes and growth factors are required in the different stages of tooth formation. If these genes or growth factors are absent, teeth will be missing. In this article, aplasia acquired after birth due to virus infection is also mentioned. Developmental courses in normal human tooth formation are illustrated as well as pivotal results in experimental genetic studies on tooth formation, particularly performed on mice. The genes that are necessary for tooth formation are also necessary for other developmental processes in the body. Therefore, focus is given to the connection between agenesis and cancer as well as between agenesis and various syndromes. Research in agenesis takes place in the field between clinical and theoretical research, and the article summarizes important knowledge for the dentist in connection with diagnosis of agenesis.
